Our Impact

Over the past 10 months, VSC has begun earning the trust of tribal leaders of the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation, launched Operation Eagle in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, and raised over $1 million in in-kind donations of human capital and materials to conduct a number of community improvement and capacity-building projects on the reservation, including:

• Rehabilitating housing for homeless veterans on the reservation as well as safe housing for women and children;
• Making significant progress in restoring the tribe’s veterans center;
• Renovating an old Headstart building into the Cherry Creek Youth Center, creating a gathering and enrichment place for youth in Cherry Creek, a community with the highest teen suicide rate in the United States.
